The earlier a disease is detected, the higher are the chances of recovery. However, symptoms do not always show up immediately. In addition to a health check-up, regular preventive medical checkups, for example for early detection of cancer, are therefore a particularly important part of your health.
However, the statutory health insurance only cover certain preventive medical checkups.
Furthermore: In the case of voluntary health insurance benefits, additional conditions are usually attached. For example, the examinations may only be taken at specified intervals and after a certain age.
Vaccinations are also an important component of good health care. However, the statutory health insurance companies do not always reimburse all important protective vaccinations, travel vaccinations or malaria prophylaxis.
In this case you have to pay for these vaccinations yourself.
The same applies to all wearers of hearing aids, glasses or contact lenses. If you are not careful, your glasses may break. A private supplementary insurance for glasses not only covers the allowance for the new hearing or vision aid, it also pays for repairs.
If you do not want your trip abroad to be overshadowed by illness, travel vaccinations are mandatory.
However, the statutory health insurance only covers vaccinations that are classified as medically necessary by the German vaccination guidelines.
This does not necessarily include all necessary travel vaccinations - as well as malaria prophylaxis.
Whether you need glasses or contact lenses - you will be left with the costs as soon as you have to buy a visual aid.
You can protect yourself with additional insurance:
✔ It will cover 80% of the costs (max. 400 Euro in two years) for the purchase.
✔ Should your glasses break, 80% of the repair costs will be paid.
✔ By the way: The insurance will take effect regardless of whether your eyesight changes.
Children love to romp - not every pair of glasses can keep up. With a supplementary insurance you can better protect your child's glasses.
Very simple: If the glasses break, you will be reimbursed 80% of the repair costs.
If you want to do without glasses or contact lenses in the long term, eye lasers can be the solution. However, the GKV does not subsidize these operations (so-called refractory surgery).
The supplementary insurance covers up to 1,500 euros for you - this includes the costs for the preliminary and follow-up examinations of your eyes.
Hearing aids are expensive - they cost between 500 and 2,500 euros. As a rule, the purchase costs are only partially reimbursed by the statutory health insurance, and only every six years.
Supplementary insurance covers 80% up to 800 Euros in five years of costs.
This also includes repair costs, in which the SHI hardly participates at all.
It does not matter where you buy your glasses.
What is important is that the dioptre number appears on the bill.
